The Ashanti Regional Police Command has secured the conviction and sentencing of three young men involved in a violent robbery at Boubai in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 9, the police identified the suspects as Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari — all 18 years old.
The trio was arrested on July 1, 2025, shortly after committing a robbery in the early morning hours between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
Armed with machetes and riding unregistered motorbikes, the suspects reportedly attacked residents and stole mobile phones, bags, and cash.
Their arrest was made possible by community volunteers in Aboabo, who apprehended the culprits and recovered 10 stolen phones and three bags.
The suspects appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, where they all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. In addition, Mamudu Issah admitted to a charge of causing harm.
Issah received a 10-year sentence for each robbery charge and an additional three years for causing harm, all to run concurrently. Takyi and Abubakari were each sentenced to 10 years in prison, also to run concurrently.
All three convicts have been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to serve their sentences.
The police commended the public and community volunteers for their quick action and urged continued collaboration in the fight against crime.
“We continue to encourage the public to support policing efforts and promptly report suspicious activities,” the statement concluded.
