Work is expected to commence this week to give a facelift to the 8kilometers road network from Gbullung to Voggue in the Kumbungu district.

The District Chief Executive for Kumbungu in the Northern Region, Hon Abdul Salam Hamza Fatawu, over the weekend led the contractor of SAMDEB CO. LTD and some officials of the assembly to pay courtesy calls on the Chiefs of Gbullung and Voggu, Naa Fuseini and Naa Saaka Sule respectively ahead of commencement of work.

The DCE in June 2024 petitioned the Ghana Highways Authority for immediate intervention to rehabilitate some selected deplorable roads in the district.

The projects included the rehabilitation and bitumen resurfacing of Kumbungu town roads among others.

Consequently, the Ghana Highways Authority have awarded a contract for the emergency rehabilitation of Gbullung to Voggue road (lot 1 and lot 2) at a total cost of Twenty-Nine Million, One Hundred and Fifty-Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Eight Ghana Cedis and Sixty-Five Pesewas (Ghe29,152,508.65).

Mr. Hamza Fatawu who doubles as the 2024 New Patriotic Party Parliamentary candidate for the Kumbungu constituency during an interaction with the chiefs and people of Voggu touted the achievements of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia led government in the district.

“…Since I became the DCE in 2017, the district has witnessed monumental development even though not all our aspirations have been met. But when you look at Voggu in particular before we assumed office, only three communities had electricity but it’s today 100% electricity coverage under the rural electrification program” he stated.

The Kumbungu DCE added that the NPP administration can also boast of connecting about 90 percent of villages in the district to the national grid since 2017.

He therefore assured the people of his commitment to ensure a facelift is given to some critical road infrastructure to boost socioeconomic activities in the district.

The contractor, Ing. Samuel A. Debrah explained to THE CUUSTODIAN that the scope of the 8kilometer stretch has been allocated into two lots with the first lot containing 2.9 culverts while the lot 2 contains Drains and Ditches including clearing and expansion of the road, earthworks, concrete works and masonry works and laying of the base.

The chief of Voggu, Naa Saaka Sule, in his remarks commended the efforts of the DCE and for that matter the government. The traditional leader nevertheless called on the contractor to execute the work diligently in order to ensure value for money.

On behalf of his subjects, the chief gave an assurance of the community’s unwavering support and collaboration so that the project will be executed within the stipulated period.
