Residents of Kusaug in the Upper East Region are at the heels of President John Dramani Mahama, calling on him to fulfil his political campaign promise of bringing lasting peace to Bawku.
They have expressed worry over the worsening conflict in Bawku after the president pledged to end the devastating phenomenon.
In a recent statement presented to the media, the youth of Kusaug pointed out how President Mahama assured them he will end the conflict if elected as President.
According to them, Bawku conflict has rather turned bloody under the leadership of the current President.
“Mr President when we heard your promise to bring lasting solution to the Bawku conflict, we were overwhelmed by it and thought the NDC was our saviour. That was why Kusaug gave the NPP zero and voted massively for the NDC.
“Your Excellency, the President, did you know that since your assumption of office as President, more than 18 people have been killed in this Bawku conflict, including women and children. Is that what you want Mr President?
“Mr President, you indeed mentioned the truth that the overlord Naana Asigri Azorka II is the legitimate chief of Kusaug and everyone knows that. Now what has changed Mr. President? We didn’t know it would take you so long to solve Bawku issue when we voted you into power.”
The worried and disappointed group urged President Mahama to fulfill his election promise to them, demanding the arrest of a rival chief as well as the affirmation of the Bawku Naaba.
“Mr President, your promise to Kusaug must be fulfilled immediately without delay to prevent further escalation of tension in the Bawku area,” the group demanded.
