The Minority Leader in Parliament, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has admonished Ghanaian politicians to emulate the exemplary relationship between Jinapor brothers who are in different political parties.

The relationship between the Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and MP for Damongo, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Minority Leader noted, should be a lesson for all Ghanaians.

According to him, the Jinapor brothers represent the hope of Ghana and stressed that politics should not make people extremists.

Speaking during the motion for the adoption of the report of the Appointments Committee on President John Dramani Mahama’s nominees on the floor of Parliament yesterday, Mr. Afenyo-Markin called on politicians to uphold unity and mutual respect in their dealings, emphasising the importance of avoiding divisive politics.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin criticized politicians who engage in confrontational and divisive tactics during electioneering periods and beyond.

“Those who lead thugs to collation centres, to insult, to threaten, yet they know they are members of Parliament, should remember that we are in this together. Learn from the Jinapor brothers. Politics should not make you forget that we are all friends.

“Mr. Speaker, Ghanaians should watch this: the policies we pursue should not divide families.

He added that the brothers’ ability to maintain a strong bond despite being on opposing political sides should serve as a reminder of the shared responsibility of lawmakers to work together for Ghana’s development.

He urged his colleagues to avoid unnecessary confrontations that undermine the essence of their roles as representatives of the people.

Speaking about the nominee, Mr. Afenyo-Markin lauded the Energy Minister-designate John Jinapor for his affable nature and the potential he brings to the Energy Ministry.

“Our own respected colleague, John Abdulai Jinapor, who is going to the Energy Ministry, is such an affable fellow,” he stated.
