The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on party supporters and members to manage their expectations regarding political appointments, stressing that President John Dramani Mahama cannot offer positions to everyone.
Speaking during a meeting with party faithful in Winneba in the Effutu Constituency on Thursday, February 12, 2026, as part of his tour of the Central Region, Asiedu Nketia explained that both government and party positions are limited, meaning only a portion of supporters can be accommodated at any given time.
He warned members not to place undue pressure on the party leadership or feel disappointed if they are not selected for appointments.
According to him, the party’s success depends on collective effort beyond the pursuit of public office, noting that grassroots organisers, volunteers and loyal supporters — many of whom may never hold official roles — remain crucial to the party’s operations.
He therefore urged members to continue contributing to the growth of the party and to prioritise unity and discipline, especially as the NDC strengthens its internal structures and prepares for upcoming political activities.
“I am aware that some of you are unhappy because you did not get to be appointed to any position upon our return to power., This is understandable. It is the reason why I am embarking on this ‘Thank You Tour’, to explain issues for your understanding.
“The challenge is that, given the number of appointments that the constitution permits President Mahama to make, not all members of the NDC can be taken care of. So be patient. There is no need to be angry with the party,” he said.
He also explained the rationale behind Mahama’s appointment of 60 ministers.
“You will recall that we all complained about the huge number of ministers under Akufo-Addo’s government. That is why we promised to cut it down to 60. This has been done, which means only a few people can be appointed at a time.”
Nketia further encouraged members to channel their grievances through the appropriate structures for redress.
“You have elected a good president who is doing a good job. Everyone acknowledges this fact, including some members of the opposition. So, I urge you to be patient with the government. If you have any concerns that have not been addressed yet. There is time for everything. Your concerns will be addressed. All you need to do is to channel them through the right quarters, and it will be resolved,” he added.
