Former President and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama is on insulting spree with the President, Chiefs, Pastors, Imams and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) as his supine victims.

In what has been described as symptoms of desperation ahead of the 2024 general election, Mr. Mahama has descended heavily on all these influential Ghanaians, describing them as hypocrites.

The NDC flagbearer for the upcoming presidential election, is heard in a viral video saying “Let us win the election and some nincompoop says I will not hand over to you, there you will see the other side of Ghanaians,” in an apparent response to President Nana Akufo-Addo who said he will not hand over power to the former President because NPP win the 2024 polls.

Speaking to NDC supporters in Volta Region as part of his campaign tour, Mr Mahama stated that while the NDC often raises concerns about the current administration, its efforts are dismissed as mere complaints.

He claimed all the chiefs and religious leaders would have been condemning NDC if it were performing poorly as the current NPP government.

“We all live in this country where we have men of God, we have Imams, and we have Chiefs. We have Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). However, whenever the NDC speaks, it is like only the NDC likes complaining,” Mr. Mahama stated.

According to him, some of these leaders choose instead to praise the NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and government during high-profile visits and religious ceremonies.

Mr Mahama took issue with the fact Dr. Bawumia is often blessed and lauded for his “supposed accomplishments,” a gesture he believed, is undeserved given the “economic hardships and corruption” under the current administration.

“They go to the church, then Pastors make the vice president kneel down, and then they pray for him, claiming that he and his government have done very well,” he retorted, adding that similar praises are extended to Dr. Bawumia by even Chiefs.

Coup chant

Mr. Mahama claimed that if half the level of corruption and nepotism seen under the NPP administration had taken place during the NDC’s tenure, the military would have taken over the country.

“If the corruption that has gone on in this government had happened during the NDC’s time, by now there would have been a coup d’état.

“The corruption, nepotism and stealing that have gone on under President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, if half of it had occurred during the NDC’s time, the government would have been removed from power,” he emphasised.

Prediction

Former President Mahama predicted that the NDC would win the next election and that those who have remained silent under the current government would suddenly become vocal critics when the NDC regains power.

“Wait until the NDC comes to power. Those who have developed toothache and could not speak about the ills of the NPP will suddenly get healed and start talking again,” Mr. Mahama prophesied, stating that, “hypocrisy is what is pulling this country back.”

He urged Ghanaians to be honest and forthright in addressing the country’s challenges, regardless of who is in office.

“If you see the truth, say it! Black is black, and white is white. It doesn’t matter who is in office; we must be truthful at all times,” Mr Mahama concluded.
