The Government of Ghana has begun an emergency evacuation process for Ghanaian nationals living in Qatar as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
The move, announced by the Ghana Embassy in Doha, is part of precautionary measures to safeguard citizens amid growing security concerns in the region.
Embassy calls for registration
In a notice to Ghanaian residents, the embassy urged nationals who wish to leave Qatar to register with the mission to facilitate evacuation arrangements.
Authorities say the process is being coordinated with relevant authorities to ensure safe travel for affected citizens.
The evacuation comes as heightened tensions in the Middle East raise fears of possible spillover effects in several Gulf countries.
Regional conflict escalates
The situation follows a series of military strikes and retaliatory attacks involving countries in the region, which have heightened security concerns and disrupted normal activities in parts of the Middle East.
Several governments have since taken precautionary measures to evacuate citizens from potentially affected areas.
Ghana activates emergency response
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has activated an emergency preparedness plan to support and protect Ghanaian citizens across the Middle East.
Earlier, the government evacuated embassy staff from Iran and advised Ghanaians living in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to remain vigilant and adhere to safety directives issued by local authorities.
Officials have confirmed that no Ghanaian casualties have been reported in connection with the ongoing tensions.
Government assures support
The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens abroad.
Authorities say diplomatic missions in the region continue to monitor the situation closely while coordinating assistance for Ghanaians who may require support.
The evacuation exercise will continue for all nationals who wish to return home as the situation develops.
