MTN Ghana has donated several bags of rice, cooking oil, assorted mineral water and drinks, a ram and an amount of GHS10,000 to the Tamale Central mosque in fulfillment of it’s annual Sallahfest program.
The MTN Sallahfest is an annual event organized to mark the celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival, which is observed by the Muslim community in Ghana after the month-long period of fasting.
Ahead of this year’s celebration, the Manager of MTN Tamale Main Branch, Mr. Mohammed Shayawu on Wednesday (March 18, 2026) handed over the assorted items to the leadership of the Central Mosque on behalf of the Northern Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Salam Ahmed.
Addressing the media shortly after the presentation, Mr. Mohammed noted that similar donations were made in Kumasi, Accra and Takoradi on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
“This is something we have been doing annually and it’s done across four locations – Kumasi, Accra, Takoradi and Tamale” he said.
He asserted that the gesture is aimed at strengthening the existing relationship with the company and it’s customers, particularly the Muslim community in the region, who are part of the subscribers of the network.
“…And you know, with MTN Ghana, we have a vision of making the lives of our customers a whole lot brighter. As part of it, this is the donation we’re bringing to make them enjoy the celebration,” he emphasised.
Mr. Mohammed Shayawu seized the opportunity to caution the general public against fraudulent people, stating the company does not charge any fee before customers can access any ongoing promotion.
He added there are also withholding rules regulating mobile money services and encourage customers to always adhere to the regulations to avoid being defrauded.
“One of the rules is that you don’t communicate or converse with people you don’t know on your phone; you also don’t share your PIN code with people online, and you don’t even give your phone out for people to cash out for you. Once you practice these processes, you are going to save yourself and also save all of us as well,” he stated.

The Secretary to the Northern Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdulai Habib Mohammed, for his part after receiving the items, commended MTN Ghana for the donation.
He said the gesture has become a symbolic annual affair and further prayed for the management and staff of the telecommunications giant.
“We want to express our gratitude to MTN Ghana and the management and staff of the company for the support they continue to give us. We pray that Allah Almighty will ensure that the company continues to grow and expand so that the people of Ghana will continue to benefit from MTN,” he prayed.
Alhaji Abdulai highlighted the significance of the month of Ramadan and the performance of the Eid celebration, stating that this is a solemn month for Muslims to fast and stay up at night to pray and supplicate to the Almighty Allah.
However, he indicated there is always mixed feelings when the month is coming to an end because people are happy to celebrate the Eid but also sad that the sacred month has come to an end.
