Former Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Musah Superior, has requested the Northern Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to disclose the names of regional representatives on the party’s National Council.
The National Council is the second-highest decision-making body of the party after Congress, and it’s membership is drawn from various categories of groups, including regional representatives from the 16 regions of Ghana.
However, a staunch member in a statement on Tuesday, February 17, copied to The Custodian Online emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability, citing the NPP’s constitution.
“For the purposes of transparency, accountability and good political governance, I respectfully request that the Northern Regional Executive Committee publish the NAMES of ALL persons appointed to serve as NORTHERN REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES on the NATIONAL COUNCIL of the Party.
”In the spirit of the relevant provisions of the NPP constitution, we must know who represents us on the highest decision-making body of the party” he stated.
The request highlights growing calls for openness in party governance. The NPP has been urged to ensure accountability and inclusivity in its decision-making processes.
The outspoken former Deputy Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission argued that lack of information in the public interest undermines good governance.
”When information meant to be provided to the public is being withheld without justification, it undermines good governance” he stressed.
Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, the Northern Regional Executive Committee have not responded officially to the matter.
