The former Minority Leader of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency in the Northern Region, Haruna Iddrisu has said nobody in the opposition National Democratic Congress can challenge him of contributing more votes to the party in the five regions of the north.
He said, “and for Tamale South, it remains a formidable NDC constituency. Indeed, Tamale South – those who say Haruna is this, Haruna is that, let anybody challenge me that he contributes more votes to the NDC in Northern Ghana than Haruna Iddrisu; and probably beyond. I can extend my numbers beyond Bono Ahafo towards some other regions”.
Haruna Iddrisu argued that the Tamale South constituency in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections made a significant contribution of 69,000 votes to the party.
He also pledged to increase the figure to 90,000 for John Mahama or whoever wins the NDC Presidential primaries.
“I am a consummate democrat, I am opened to competition today and tomorrow and I promise that if I choose to remain in Parliament with your support, I will surpass any record in Parliament as long serving MP if I choose to” he said.
However, the 5th term lawmaker stressed that he will choose other things in the foreseeable future which is most likely to be his presidential ambition.
The outspoken MP made these remarks on Sunday (March 19, 2023) when he filed his nomination to contest the NDC parliamentary primaries slated in May this year.
Addressing Journalists in Tamale, the Tamale South legislator added he remains the unbeatable candidate of the NDC.
The MP stated today only marks the beginning of the journey to the victory of the National Democratic Congress in 2024. “I believe this would be my 6th term running, so I am here to honor the NDC party constitutional requirement of filing my nomination as the NDC unbeatable candidate for Tamale South for the 2024 general elections” he added.
