The opposition National Democratic Congress in the northern region has urged assembly members at the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies to eschew partisan and personal interest in approving the recently announced Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, especially, the Mayor nominee of Tamale, Mr. Sule Salifu.
The NDC has argued that time had already been wasted during the nomination process and emphasized any further delay may worsen the plight of the ordinary person in the area.
The plea was contained in a statement sanctioned by the Northern Regional Communications Bureau of the largest opposition party yesterday Monday (20 September, 2021) to congratulate the nominee of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who, when voted by 2/3 of the Tamale metro assembly members would serve as Mayor of Tamale.
“We urge Honourable assembly members of the various district Assemblies especially Tamale to look beyond partisan and personal interest in approving the nomination of Mr Sule Salifu and his colleagues” the statement indicated.
“The Northern Regional Communications Bureau of the NDC extends its warmest congratulatory message to Mr. Sule Salifu on his nomination for approval and appointment as Mayor of Tamale. Your nomination has not come as a surprise in view of your several years of dedicated loyalty, commitment and sacrifice to the NPP. You rose to become the regional secretary, regional director of YEA and currently the regional communication director of the NPP” the statement added.
It continued that, “It is our believe that, your tenure in office as Mayor of Tamale, will see a more peaceful, United and Joyous city. We acknowledge the fact that development especially the central business district of the city cannot be done devoid of inconveniences; however we urge that it is done with a human face.”
However, the NDC Communication Bureau said they will monitor the performance of the Akufo-Addo appointees with keen interest, adding that, “We will put them on notice that the eagle eyes of the northern regional communications bureau.”
