The Regional Security Council of the northern region has constituted a joint military and police taskforce to enforce full compliance of the directive announced earlier by president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

REGSEC observed the blatant disregard of the instructions given by the president in the regional capital, especially with regards to social gatherings such wedding, outdooring and the performance of funeral rites despite the numerous public education outreaches and sensitization that are being churned out on both radio and TV.

Chairman of the Regional Security Council, Mr. Salifu Saeed in statement copied to custodianghonline.com said the taskforce will move into the communities to ensure that all forms of gathering are done within the stipulated regulation of twenty five people converging at a time.

He said the taskforce will not tolerate any gathering that violates the provisions of the presidential fiat, stating “the taskforce will deal decisively with any person or group of persons who violate the directives.”

The Minister called for the cooperation and support of all traditional leaders, the clergy, youth and women groups and the civil society organizations operating in the region. Mr Salifu Saeed emphasized the instructions outlined by government are only in the interest and safety of Ghanaians, adding “The dangers posed by COVID-19 are too clear for anyone to doubt and we must therefore appreciate the need for these directives.”

Thecustodianghonline.com can report that, some recalcitrant individuals continue to disobey the fiat issued by government in the Tamale metropolis particularly weekends with huge crowds gathering at various social events in the area.

Meanwhile, the Tamale Metropolitan Security Council yesterday arrested four people from Changli, a suburb of Tamale for organizing funeral activities, which is against the ongoing ban on public gathering and a shop owner at the Lamashegu market for flouting the assembly’s earlier announcement in respect of fumigation of the markets in the metropolis.

The Tamale Metro Taskforce led by the Mayor, Musah Iddrisu Superior last weekend clashed with a group for refusing to comply with the public safety measures and social distancing protocols in the metropolis where a police officer was hit with an object. However, the police are still on a manhunt for the suspect.
