Ghanaians will today, Friday, 28 November, converge at Black Star Square for the state funeral of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
The state-assisted burial will bring together government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, political figures, and the general public to honour the memory of the former First Lady, who played a defining role in Ghana’s political and social transformation.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a prominent political figure and women’s rights advocate.
She served as the founder and leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and was instrumental in the establishment of the 31st December Women’s Movement, which empowered women through education, entrepreneurship, and social initiatives.
Nana Konadu passed away earlier this year after a short illness.
Her death has been described as a great loss to the nation, particularly to those who admired her lifelong commitment to public service and women’s empowerment.
Her passing marks the end of an era, but her legacy of leadership, courage, and service will continue to inspire generations of Ghanaians.
