The Director of Projects at the National Security Council, Mr Hakeem Duweijua, has donated a set of dining tables and benches to the Dr Hilla Limann Senior High School at Gwollu in the Sissala West District.
The intervention, which consisted of 100 tables and 200 long benches, was to enhance the students’ safety and reduce off-campus movement that could expose students to radical influences.
Mr Duweijua noted that the initiative was part of a broader effort of the Human Security Department of the National Security Council (NSC) to address security risks facing young people in the country.
Speaking at a brief ceremony at the school to present the furniture, Mr Duweija stated that they had identified that inadequate school infrastructure, especially in dining and boarding facilities, had created a gap that extremist groups could exploit.
“When students are forced to leave school grounds just to find a place to eat, they become vulnerable to outside influences.
This donation is meant to help keep them safe, supervised, and focused on their education,” he explained.
Mr Duweijua said similar interventions would be rolled out in other vulnerable schools across the country.
He indicated that security was not just about weapons and walls but creating environments that protect, empower, and guide the youth away from danger, which he said was the mission of the NSC.
Mr Mohammed Bakor Zakaria, the Headmaster of the Hilla Limann Senior High School, expressed gratitude to the NSC and said the furniture would allow more than 1,000 students to have their meals on campus in a safe and orderly setting.
“This is more than just furniture; it’s an investment in the safety and stability of our students. We now have the means to discourage unnecessary movement and protect our students from potential dangers beyond the school gates,” he explained
Mr Abudu Fuseini Gbene, the Sissala West District Chief Executive (DCE), applauded the National Security Council for recognising the connection between infrastructure and safety.
“Our students deserve to learn in environments that are not just academically sound, but also secure,” he remarked.
Kuoro Bajor Daniel Limann, the Paramount Chief of the Gwollu Traditional Area, thanked the government for the intervention and urged the community members to support efforts aimed at protecting citizens, especially the youth.
He explained that young people were the future of the country and that it was the collective duty of all to support the state to shield them from harmful paths.
The students thanked the government for the donation, but appealed for a library at the school.
