NDC backed candidate for GBC presidency Agbesi Dzakpasu

As part of strategic moves to take over the leadership of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has thrown its weight behind one of its members Agbesi Dzakpasu for the presidency of the Association.

This decision, according to information gathered, was firmed up at a high-level conference organized by NDC Lawyers Association, held at the Stevens Hotel in Ho, Volta Region, from 30th August to 1st September, 2024.

The plan is said to be part of NDC’s plot to carry out its threats of politicizing Ghana’s judiciary on partisan lines.

The Ho conference, which was on the theme: “Keeping a Legal Eye on the Prize: The NDC Lawyer’s Role in Ensuring Victory 2024,” served as a platform for influential party figures to outline their vision for the future.

Speakers at the event included former President John Mahama, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, and Minority Chief Whip Kwame Governs Agbodza.

They all delivered compelling addresses that underscored the critical role of the legal fraternity in securing the party’s success in the 2024 general election on December 7.

One of the key resolutions of the conference, THE CUSTODIAN learnt, was about the strategic control of the Ghana Bar Association.

GBA will be holding its conference on 11th September, 2024 in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to election national executives and the stakes could not be higher.

Recognizing the influential role of the GBA in shaping public opinion and legal discourse, the NDC Lawyers Association has made it a priority to ensure that the National Presidency is held by an individual aligned with the party’s objectives.

This attempt is seen as essential in countering perceived biases within the legal profession and ensuring a fair and just legal process in the lead-up to the 2024 elections.

According to more information gathered, the current National Public Relations Officer of the GBA, Mr. Saviour Quarcoo Kudze, a known NDC activist, has been instrumental in this strategic push.

Mr. Kudze’s influence within the association has been pivotal in galvanizing support for Mr. Dzakpasu, who is widely regarded as a stalwart of the NDC.

Mr. Dzakpasu’s legal acumen and unwavering loyalty to the party are well-documented as he has been a trusted legal advisor to several high-profile NDC members, including Sedina Tamakloe, the former MASLOC boss recently convicted by the courts for causing financial loss to the state.

Beyond his legal ability, Mr. Dzakpasu’s contributions to the NDC extend to key national institutions.

Appointed by then-President John Mahama, he served on the Boards of GRIDCo and Ghana Gas Company Limited, bringing his legal expertise to bear on these critical national assets.

His current role as a Board Member of Media General Ghana Limited, owners of TV3 Network Limited, further underscores his influence in shaping public narratives—a crucial asset in the NDC’s broader strategy.
