The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has begun the second phase of its revenue mobilization exercise.

The company in this exercise is set to recover an amount of GH¢100 million in the next two weeks.

The Managing Director of NEDCo Mr. Osmani Aludiba Ayuba at the commencement of the second exercise described the first exercise, which ended on May 18 as a success.

Consumers of electricity in the NEDCo operational zone are said to owe the company about GH¢1.2 billion and management undertook the first phase of debt collection exercise between April 18 and May 18, 2023, to recover at least 70 percent of the amount.

However, the Managing Director of NEDCo, Mr. Osmani Aludiba Ayuba in an interview with Journalists in Tamale disclosed the company retrieved an amount of GH¢60 million out of an amount GH¢500 million.

According to him, the exercise was a success in the sense that the revenue taskforce was also able to achieve some nonfinancial gains such as identifying the number of illegal consumers and those who are not properly captured in their database.

“It was a success in the sense that there was some amount of money we went out to collect, which we did collect but we have also identified a number of issues as we went around; those were not financial in nature but there were things that opened our eyes to so many things on the ground,” he explained.

Mr. Ayuba added this will help the company to improve upon the delivery of quality service to the people.

He said there was also a higher level of discussions on how to settle debts of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and posited further when that is done, the company would’ve achieved its initial target.

The taskforce led by the Managing Director visited the Avnash rice processing factory and the Ghana Special Industries both at Nyankpala in the Tolon district of the northern region.

Mr. Ayuba urged the organizations to endeavour to settle all their outstanding debts owed the company in order to continue enjoying electricity.

Meanwhile, the Northern Electricity Distribution Company is said to owe the Volta River Authority (VRA), which is the power generator, an amount of GH¢1.6 billion and the power transmitter, GRIDCo, about GH¢481 million.
