Mr. Hassan Tampuli, Deputy Minister for Transport

Deputy Minister for Transport Mr. Hassan Tampuli has stated that the passage of the new Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) Bill into law has hugely affirmed the pledge by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to reform tax measures at Ghana’s ports.

He said the new legislation is a strong message to importers and consumers as it confirms the promise of the Vice President and the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 general election, to streamline import duties in the country.

Parliament passed the GSA Bill, 2024 on Monday 29th July to empower the Authority to prevent arbitrary charges by shippers and Ship owners on imported goods.

Mr. Hassan Tampuli who shepherded the passage of the Bill in Parliament added that the law will also protect and preserve freight forwarding businesses to only Ghanaians without the involvement of any foreigners.

“When the new law is assented to by the president, no shipper or shipper owner can impose unjustifiable container and other handling charges without the approval of the GSA.

“This new law is a game changer because of its ripple impact of reducing import duties paid at the port by importers,” Mr. Hassan Tampuli who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gushegu in the Northern Region reiterated.
