The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) Sulemana Briamah has said Ghana needs an honest and accountable leader.
In his view, Ghana’s destiny does not depend on manifestos.
Sharing his views on the manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on his X platform, he said “The destiny of Ghana doesn’t depend on Manifestos. We’ve seen the best of manifestos before. What we need is honest, accountable leadership. We need a leader who will want to be remembered by present and future generations for how well he/she served this country.”
The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA) has said that his outfit is ready register Ghanaians living in other countries.
The exercise is in accordance with the NIA Act, 2008 (Act 750).
According to Prof. Ken Attafuah, a 10-member team will travel to Ottawa, Canada to begin the piloting of the exercise and train officials there to undertake the registration.
The team will rely on Ghana’s missions abroad as registration centres with support from their officers.
The NIA, from last year, has been working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop a roadmap for the registration of Ghanaians abroad.
Mission staff have been trained on the registration process while Mobile Registration Workstations (MRW) will be deployed to Ghana’s missions abroad.
At a public hearing before the Assurances Committee of Parliament on Monday, August 26, 2024, Prof. Attafuah noted that there will also be public sensitizations as part of the pilot exercise.
The 10-member team will undertake similar exercises in Toronto, Washington and New Jersey.
All things being equal, the members are expected to leave the country during the weekend of August 26, 2024.
The National Identification Authority Act, 2008 (Act 750) mandates the NIA to register Ghanaian citizens resident in or outside Ghana onto the National Identification Register (NIR).
