The Northern Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of the key suspect in the Wapuli kidnapping case following weeks of relentless surveillance.
Hoyeefe Amadu, the fourth and key suspect was arrested on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at about 01:30am from his hideout at Watugu, a village which is about 10km from the outskirts of Gushegu.
Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Neindow, the Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service who confirmed the arrest to the media described it as a breakthrough amid the ongoing investigations.
The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) team on December 6, 2025, successfully rescued a 42year-old man from kidnappers in Wapuli leading to the arrest of three suspects, out of a syndicate of four.
The victim was subjected to life threatening cutlass wounds, and the perpetrators successfully collected a ransom of GH¢90,000.00 out of GH¢ 100,000 as a condition for his release. However, an amount of GH¢70,000 was retrieved from the suspects.
Chief Inspector Neindow reaffirmed the commitment of the police service, indicating that an intensive intelligence gathering will continue to apprehend the remaining accomplice.
Meanwhile, the other three suspects arrested earlier have been remanded into Prison custody pending reappearance in court.
