The Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Alhassan Suhuyini, has highlighted plans of the government to complete the 2nd Ring Road in the Tamale metropolis and also undertake the construction of a 3rd Ring Road connecting the greater Tamale area which covers the fourth constituencies in the Northern Regional capital.

The Deputy Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North constituency said the northern region is central under the government’s US$10 billion accelerated infrastructure plan to drive job creation and prioritize the completion of uncompleted and abandoned government infrastructural projects nationwide.

Addressing Journalists in Tamale over the weekend after inspecting some ongoing road projects in the Sagnarigu municipality together with the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Suhuyini, stressed that the northern region is key when it comes to the Mahama administration’s massive road infrastructure agenda.

He noted the immediate plan is completing the ongoing construction of the 2nd Ring Road in the regional capital to ease traffic on the Central Business area.

“That is to tell you that there’s a 3rd Ring Road and that 3rd Ring Road is going to touch all the four constituencies in Tamale and it is going to be a dualized road that is Asphalt. That is to tell you how much is going into that construction and how long that road is expected to last and it is going to open up the city of Tamale,” he promised.

The Deputy Minister maintained this project when completed will also provide alternatives to commuters and communities along the road to easily connect to the business area than it is the case now.

“We are talking about the construction of 35kilometers of road and when you look at it critically, it is actually more than 35km because we’re talking about dualized 35km – so where it is not dualized, you’re talking about 70 to 80km of road,” Mr Suhuyini emphasised.

The delegation led by the Deputy Minister inspected the ongoing construction inner city roads in the Nyanshegu North area, parts of Gumani, Choggu and Fuo.

He also interacted with residents whose properties have been affected and appealed to them to cooperate with the contractors for the timely completion of the projects.

For his part, the Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Abdulai Imoro Gong, said road infrastructure remains critical to improving the socioeconomic livelihoods of the people in the municipality.

He indicated businesses will immediately spring up when the projects are completed which will eventually boost the revenue of the assembly.
