The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the start of registration for additional delegates ahead of its upcoming presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
The inclusion of additional categories of party officials and dignitaries in the voter register, according to the party, is in line with Article 13(1)(11) of the party’s constitution and transitional provisions adopted at National Annual Delegates Conference in Accra on 19th July, 2025.
A statement issued by the Secretary to the Presidential Elections Committee, Mr. William Yamoah, said the decision seeks to broaden participation and ensure inclusivity in the party’s internal elections.
It pointed out that the updated register—often referred to as the party’s ‘album’- will now include all former regional and constituency executives, members of the National Council of Elders, thirty members of the National Council of Patrons, and past national officers.
Others captured in the expanded list are external branch executives, TESCON leaders, former Ministers and Deputy Ministers, as well as former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
“All officers that fall under these categories are requested to register their names with their respective organizational structures, including the National Secretariat, Regions, Constituencies, and External Branches, as applicable, with immediate effect,” the statement read.
To facilitate the process, an online registration portal will be made available to external branch executives, while forms can also be downloaded from the party’s official website.
The deadline for registration is Friday, September 19, 2025.
The Secretary to the Presidential Elections Committee, Mr William Yamoah emphasised the party’s commitment to transparency and fairness, assuring that the Presidential Elections Committee will undertake a comprehensive verification and validation of the album to ensure that only an authentic and credible register is used for the conduct of the presidential election.
As the NPP gears up for the presidential primaries, anticipation has built up both within the party and across the national political landscape.
The primary, according to political pundits, will mark a pivotal moment for the NPP as it seeks to election a flagbearer capable of leading the party into the 2028 general election.
Those who have picked the nomination forms are former Vice President and NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; MP for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong; MP for Bosomtwe and former Minister for Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum; former NPP General Secretary, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; former Minister for Railway Development, Mr Joe Ghartey; and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh.
