The Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party, Hajia Safia Mohammed, has been adjudged an Outstanding Female Politician for 2023 at the 5th edition of the Northern Excellence Awards held in Tamale on March 5.
The annual awards scheme is an initiative of the Celebrities Charity Development Foundation to recognize outstanding performance and contribution of personalities in the academia, politics, entrepreneurs, and the civil society from the five regions in the north.
Hajia Safia in remarks thanked the awards committee for recognizing the contribution and impact of women in politics.
“This award is not only a recognition of my achievements, but also a testament to the strength, resilience, and determination of women in politics. This award is not just for me, but for all the women who have paved the way for me and for those who will come after me. It is a reminder that we have a duty to keep pushing forward, to keep breaking barriers, and to keep fighting for what we believe in” she said.
According to the former Savannah Regional Women’s Organizer, it is not easy for women to break through the glass ceiling and make their mark in a male-dominated field.
However, she believes this award shows that, “our efforts are not in vain, and that we are making progress towards gender equality in politics.”
“As a female politician, I believe that we have a responsibility to make sure that the voices of women are heard and represented in government. We need more women in politics to bring fresh perspectives, diverse experiences, and innovative solutions to the table. Women bring a unique perspective that is often overlooked in a male-dominated political landscape” Hajia Safia stated.
“We also need to ensure that women in politics are not held back by gender bias or discrimination. We need to create a culture of inclusion and equality, where women are empowered to succeed and thrive in politics” she added.
Hajia Safia Mohammed seized the opportunity to thank the National Women’s Organizer, Kate Gyanfua, and the National Executives of the NPP for the unwavering support and encouragement.
“You have been my rock and my inspiration, and I could not have achieved this without you” she emphasized.
