The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will require all presidential aspirants to sign a peace pact on Thursday, January 22, 2026, as part of efforts to prevent internal tensions and ensure a smooth flagbearer election.

Isaac Yaw Boamah-Nyarko, MP for Effia and a member of the NPP’s presidential election committee, told Accra-based Asaase Radio that former party presidents and representatives of the National Peace Council will witness the signing.

“On Thursday, we are going to sign the peace pact. All the aspirants, together with our former presidents and the Peace Council, will sign a peace pact that commits them to the outcome of the election. The peace pact is to make it clear that whether you win or lose, you owe it to the party to pull everybody along,” he said.

Boamah-Nyarko explained that the pact is intended to protect the party from factional disputes and any security challenges that may arise during the internal contest. He added that the Ghana Police Service will be in charge of security and cautioned that “no machismo, no bodyguardism will be entertained,” stressing that any disruptions will be dealt with.

He encouraged aspirants to campaign on their policies and achievements instead of resorting to personal attacks, noting that unity after the election is crucial as the NPP positions itself to challenge the governing NDC in 2028.

“This party has survived worse moments,” he said, adding that party cohesion will help rebuild public trust and strengthen the NPP’s path back to power.
