The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formed a joint committee to review the final proposals submitted by the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) to the President.
The committee, jointly led by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, Hon. Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, and the Chairman of the NPP’s Constitutional and Legal Committee, Frank Davies Esq., was tasked with presenting the party’s proposals to the CRC as part of the constitutional review process.
However, the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, in a statement dated Tuesday, December 23, disclosed that the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has directed the committee to study the Constitutional Review Committee’s final proposals and advise the NPP’s National Council, which is the second-highest decision-making body of the party.
Members of the joint committee include Hon. Hassan Tampuli, Hon OB Amoah, Hon. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, and others. The party is urging members to be cautious with their commentary on the proposals while the committee’s study is ongoing.
Nana B, as he is affectionately called, emphasised that the largest opposition party’s position on the final proposals of CRC will be made public in due course.
The eight-member Constitutional Review Committee established by President John Dramani Mahama in January 2025 submitted its final report, outlining far-reaching proposals to address gaps in earlier constitutional reforms and strengthen Ghana’s system of governance.
President Mahama received the report at a ceremony on Monday, December 22, 2025, from the committee’s chair, Prof H. Kwasi Prempeh, and subsequently directed that the document be published and made available to the public.
Among the most significant recommendations is a proposal to extend the presidential term of office from four to five years, while retaining the two-term limit.
The committee argues that the change would enhance governance stability and allow administrations sufficient time to develop and implement long-term policies.
The report also places strong emphasis on reforming local governance structures. It proposes the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and the formal integration of traditional authorities into local government.
