The National Council of Patrons of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Friday, February 13, 2026, visited their newly elected flagbearer, H.E Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, at his private residence in Accra.
The main reason for the visit was to congratulate him on winning emphatically in the just-ended presidential primaries elections of the Party. According to the National Council of Patrons, his overwhelming victory shows the confidence of the New Patriotic Party in his leadership style.
At the meeting, the National Council of Patrons used the opportunity to share their core mandate and pledged their readiness to assist the flagbearer in his campaign activities by mobilising critical resources needed for an effective electioneering campaign.
The National Council of Patrons, which is composed of seasoned party faithful, is chaired by the immediate past Chief of Staff, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare and has experienced members like Hon. Isaac Osei, Prof. Yaa Ntiamoah Baidoo, Dr Charles Dwamena, Mr. Ken Amankwah, Ambassador Edward Boateng, Dr. Anthony Nsia Asare, Dr. Thomas Agyekum Kyeremeh and many stalwarts of the party.

In their remarks, they also highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive reconciliation process starting from the grassroots level to the national level.
On the need to tap into the rich experience of members of the National Council of Patrons, the leader of the delegation, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare, mentioned that ‘looking at the rich experience and diverse backgrounds of our members, all patrons stand in readiness to serve on any assigned committee to complement the experience of other party members towards winning election 2028.’

In his remarks, the newly elected flagbearer of the NPP, H.E. Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, indicated his appreciation to the National Council of Patrons for their congratulatory message and their readiness to support his campaign activities.
He also pledged his commitment to peace and unity in the party. He opined that ‘very soon, a reconciliation committee will be put in place to start the process towards ensuring a peaceful and united NPP, that is ready to resell power in 2028’.

He further acknowledged the diverse nature and wealth of experience in the membership of the National Council of Patrons and also expressed his willingness to tap into that rich experience.
