The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has announced new guidelines for the party’s internal membership registration and dues payment system as the party prepares for a nationwide registration exercise.
Addressing the media during a press conference, Mr. Frimpong explained that the party has introduced a digital platform to streamline membership registration, dues payments, and verification across all constituencies.
Digital platform for dues and registration
According to the General Secretary, all party membership dues must be paid through the NPP’s official digital platform. He stressed that dues cards distributed to constituencies are only meant to confirm payments that have already been recorded on the system.
Constituency treasurers, secretaries, and chairmen have been granted access to the platform to verify payment records and authenticate dues cards issued to members.
He further emphasized that constituency executives are not permitted to collect cash or any other form of payment directly from party members, as all transactions must be done digitally to promote transparency and accountability.
Members can pay their dues through a USSD code, 920*270#, or via the NPP Mobile App.
Online portal for all membership categories
The party has also launched an online membership registration portal designed to make it easier for individuals to sign up and manage their membership.
The portal allows three categories of people to register: registered voters, non-registered voters, and members of the party living abroad.
Individuals who complete the online registration and pay their dues will receive a temporary digital membership card. However, they will still be required to visit their polling station physically to complete the process and obtain a permanent membership card.
Three-week nationwide exercise
To finalize registrations, the NPP will conduct a nationwide polling station registration exercise across all 276 constituencies and more than 40,000 polling stations.
The exercise will run for three consecutive weekends on the following dates:
-
14–15 March
-
21–22 March
-
28–29 March
All activities will take place between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM each day.
Polling station executives have been directed to be present at their respective stations to facilitate the registration process. The General Secretary noted that exceptions may only be granted in special circumstances, such as farming activities or traditional taboo days.
Verification and eligibility
Mr. Frimpong clarified that while every Ghanaian is eligible to register as a member through the portal, registration and dues payment alone do not automatically grant the right to vote or contest in the party’s internal elections.
He explained that eligibility will depend on verification and compliance with the party’s constitution, including enrollment in the polling station register as stipulated under Article 3 of the party’s constitution.
Monitoring compliance
To ensure smooth implementation of the exercise nationwide, the party has established a call centre to monitor the registration process and receive reports of any non-compliance.
