The campaign team of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has strongly dismissed allegations made by fellow NPP presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, describing them as “baseless, uninformed, and unwarranted.”
In a statement issued on January 20, 2026, Chairman of the Campaign Communications, Nana Akomeah, expressed deep concern over a recent video by Agyapong in which he accused Dr Bawumia of making comments about the health status of the late Prof. Albert Adu Boahen and a supposed refusal to contest the 1996 NPP presidential primaries.
According to the Bawumia Campaign, these allegations are entirely false. The statement emphasised that Dr. Bawumia has never made such remarks and challenged Agyapong to provide video or audio proof if he stands by the claims.
The campaign cautioned that misinformation in political discourse can mislead the public and worsen tensions within the New Patriotic Party.
“Accuracy matters. Words matter,” the statement stressed, warning that wrongful attributions have serious consequences.
The team further urged Kennedy Agyapong to issue an immediate apology to Dr. Bawumia for what it described as defamatory and misleading assertions.
Dr. Bawumia, the statement noted, believes that political leaders must express their views without personal attacks, tantrums, or distortions, while upholding truthfulness, decorum, and restraint.
The exchange adds another layer to the increasingly heated competition ahead of the NPP presidential primaries, where both candidates are prominent contenders.
