The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred petitions against its Deputy Director of Communications, Ernest Owusu Bempah, to the party’s National Council for further consideration.

In a statement issued by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party leadership expressed grave concern over Owusu Bempah’s conduct, noting that formal petitions had been received from party members calling for his removal from office.

The statement explained that, since  Owusu Bempah’s appointment was made upon the recommendation of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and approved by the National Council, due process requires the same Council to determine the matter.

“The matter has been formally referred to the National Council for appropriate consideration and determination,” the General Secretary stated.

The NPP reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, fairness, and transparency in handling internal matters, emphasising the importance of safeguarding the party’s values.

The petitions and concerns surrounding Owusu Bempah mark a significant development within the party’s communications structure, with the National Council now expected to deliberate and decide on the way forward.

Earlier, Owusu Bempah added his voice to the fight against galamsey, criticising his own party for attacking the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over illegal activities that destroy water bodies.

According to him, the NPP has no moral right to criticise the NDC on the matter because its own leadership failed to tackle the menace when it was in power.

“Under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, our own members were involved in galamsey. We couldn’t fight it. He couldn’t achieve his dream of fighting galamsey,” he stated.

Owusu Bempah said the party’s leadership “has failed in all directions” and must first “work and achieve a high moral ground before any criticism would be justified.”
