The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it has begun formal processes to expel former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, following comments he made during an interview on Channel One TV on January 12, 2026.
During the interview, Prof. Frimpong Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considered himself a member.
He further alleged that the Party’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
In a strong rebuttal, the NPP dismissed the professor’s claims as baseless, insisting that the 2023 primary was conducted in a “free, fair, transparent, and credible manner,” adding that the results reflected the will of the party’s delegates.
The party said the process was widely accepted by candidates who participated and by respected members across the party’s structures.
According to the statement, the NPP considers Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s remarks as “highly reprehensible” and damaging to the unity and integrity of the party.
As a result, leadership has activated provisions within the party’s constitution to initiate his expulsion.
The party emphasised that the disciplinary steps being taken are in line with internal procedures and are aimed at safeguarding its values and cohesion ahead of the 2028 general elections.
