The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has warned National Security operatives to stay away from its presidential primary, citing the Ghana Police Service as the only authorised security agency for the event.
The NPP National Organiser, Lawyer Henry Nana Boakye, in a statement dated Thursday, January 29, expressed concerns over plans by National Security to deploy unauthorised personnel, saying it would be seen as an attempt to disrupt or manipulate the election.
”The New Patriotic Party (NPP), through the Presidential Elections Committee, has formally designated the Ghana Police Service as the only security institution responsible for providing security for the Party’s presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026,” he emphasised.
Nana B said the party will not tolerate the presence, deployment, or activities of any non-uniformed, plain-clothed, or otherwise unauthorised security personnel deployed by National Security or any other institution at any voting centre, collation point, or any activity connected to the conduct of the primary.
He alleged an attempted ploy by the National Security to deploy to voting centres, warning that any unauthorised operative found would be treated as an intruder.
”…We have information that some elements within the National Security have plans to deploy unauthorised operatives. Any attempt by National Security or any other unauthorised body to deploy operatives to the election will be treated as a deliberate and unlawful intrusion into the internal democratic processes of the Party, with the clear potential to disrupt or manipulate the election.”
Nana Boakye stated that the NPP will take lawful action to protect the integrity of the electoral process if the National Security attempts to deploy operatives, stressing that any unauthorised presence will be challenged and resisted within the bounds of the law.
The NPP National Organiser said the police have demonstrated enough capacity and professionalism thus far and are able to enforce this directive strictly without compromise.
He added that the Police must ensure that only duly authorised and identifiable police officers are deployed throughout the exercise, in accordance with the assurances given.
