The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem South, Mr. Osei Bonsu Amoah, has urged voters in the Ejisu Constituency to continue with their unwavering support for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in tomorrow’s by-election.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has set April 30, 2024 for the Ejisu by-election following the death of the MP for the area, Dr. John Kumah.

In a passionate address to the constituents, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development emphasised the stronghold status of Ejisu for the NPP, citing the consistent support of the constituents since 1992.

He pointed out that even the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has recognised Ejisu’s significant leaning towards the NPP.

For this reason, Mr. O. B. Amoah said the NDC has included Ejisu in a list of 32 constituencies with massive NPP support that they are keeping eyes on.

Campaigning strongly for the NPP candidate ahead of the by-election, the Minister of State said “Everybody knows that the NPP, whether in power or in opposition, is unmatched, and it is you, the voters, that give the party such a status.”

He dismissed the potential of an independent candidate winning the seat, underscoring the symbolic strength of the NPP’s elephant emblem in contrast to an undefined symbol from an independent contender.

Mr. O.B Amoah also paid glowing tribute to the late John Kumah, underscoring the respected tenure and contributions of the departed lawmaker to the constituency.

“He did great works for Ejisu and had he lived to spend another term in office, he would have done even more,” he eulogised the late MP.

Reflecting on the broader political landscape, the Akuapem South MP criticised the ‘skirt and blouse’ voting pattern of the 2020 elections, which he emphasised, weakened the NPP’s parliamentary majority.

He noted that this pattern was particularly evident in the Central Region where President Nana Akufo-Addo won 19 constituencies but the NPP secured only 10 parliamentary seats.

Mr. O. B. Amoah called on all constituents, especially those feeling disconnected or sitting on the fence, to rally behind the NPP’s candidate in the by-election to ensure the party retains its parliamentary majority and continues its agenda for the constituency and the country at large.

He also reiterated the importance of unity and familial bonds within the NPP fraternity, urging everyone to “come together and do the work, because a political party is like a family. You can’t leave it, and nobody can drive you away.”

Tomorrow’s by-election will be a significant test for the NPP’s ability to maintain its influence in the Ejisu constituency and parliament in the 2024 general election.
