A Parliamentary candidate aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tamale North Constituency, Mr. Habib Adam, has outlined what he would do to transform the constituency when he is given the opportunity to represent the people in Parliament.

“My basic motivation as a native of the constituency is that I want to help my people. I always tell people that sometimes people get into politics or public office because you have the opportunity to influence policies that can help the lives of millions of people. If I am a businessman and I have money, I probably can afford to do one or two things for my constituents but as a policy maker, you can bring in a policy that can affect millions of your people” he explained.

Speaking in an interview with Journalists last Friday, July 14, 2023, after successful filing his nomination forms, the Financial Economist and Banker said he will focus on building the human resources of the constituency and empower the youth through education.

He said the youth should be motivated and encouraged to embrace education so that they can contribute meaningful to the development of their communities, adding this will inspire other children who will see them as role models in the society.

“…What I want to see in Tamale is that, within the four years that I will be in Parliament, Insha Allah, I want to be able to produce at least not less 50 engineers and not less 50 lawyers. There are other new courses that are coming up and, in those areas, – Artificial Intelligence and all that; I want to be able to influence in the constituency to get at least one expert in any field you can find in the world” he added.

In order to achieve this vision, Mr. Habib Adam said he will work hard for the NPP to pick the Tamale North seat from the National Democratic Congress and also break the 8-year governance cycle during the 2024 general elections.

“The ultimate target is that I work hard to make sure that we break the 8 at the national level and at the constituency level, we break the dominance of the NDC in the constituency. In fact, its not that the NDC is dominant in the constituency but the basic fact is that, sometimes, we probably shoot ourself from within”.

He continued that, “Anytime we have primaries and maybe there are disagreements and other things. So, we’re trying as much as possible to minimize that, once we are able to do that, Tamale North will become our seat and we will retire the NDC from the constituency”.

Meanwhile, Mr. Habib Adam is going into the contest with a very rich political profile having served the governing NPP in various spheres since his infancy and student days.

Political Profile

I am currently a Parliamentary Candidate Hopeful on the ticket of New Patriotic Party, NPP for the Tamale-North Constituency. I lost the last Primaries but will compete again at the next Primaries in 2023.

By training, I am a Financial Economist, Accountant and a Banker by profession. I am also a political strategist as a result of my close association with politics since 1992. My works can be testified by prominent members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the current party in government in Ghana. Prominent members including Hon. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Hon. Kofi Apraku, Alhaji Amin Amadu and some national executives including John Boadu (former General Secretary) and Sammy Awuku (former National Organiser) just to mention few who can attest to my political organisation.

I have been a staunch member of our party and have been involved in the party’s organization since 1992 even before I turned Eighteen (18) years.

In 1992, I was part of the team that received most of the presidential aspirants prominent among them were Professor Adu Boahene, Dr. Dzane Selby, Mr. J. A. Kuffour, Dr. Bilson among others. In the 1992 elections, I was part of the team that distributed food and water for our party at the Texaco polling station in the then Gukpegu-Sabongida constituency now Tamale Central. We serve as errand boys to call for reinforcements anytime there was trouble since they were no mobile phones then.

By 1996, I had reached the voting age and started voting. I have participated and voted in every other election save 2008; when I was away doing my second degree in UK.

At Legon between 2001-2005, I was an active member of the University of Ghana (Legon) branch of Tertiary Institutions Students Confederacy of NPP (TESCON) and eventually became TESCON’s Publicity and Press Secretary for the 2004/2005 academic year of which our current Director of Elections, Martin Adjei Korsah was our president.

As the Publicity and Press secretary, I was tasked to come out with programmes for the period leading to the 2004 elections.
