A high powered delegation of fifty Queen mothers from the Nzema traditional area in the Western Region have visited the northern region to celebrate the 2021 Damba festival with the Chiefs and people of Dagbon.

The Chief of Lamashegu, Naa Alhaji Ziblim Abdulai, at his palace on Tuesday (19th October, 2021) held a durbar in honor of the Queen mothers visit to the Dagbon traditional area. The Queen mothers were welcomed with some sterling cultural performances by Chiefs and people of Lamashegu dressed smocks and other regalia.

Leader of the delegation, Nana Awabe II in a media interaction told journalists that the love and hospitality of the dagbon people were so great.

She said the team was happy with the hospitality of Dagbon people and promised the friendship between the two traditional areas has come to stay.

“We are going to tell our people from Nzema land the kind of hospitality we received, Dagbon people are so lovely. In fact, this friendship is going to stay for life and we hope you will also come to visit, honor and celebrate our Kundum festival with us and I believe that this friendship will stay on forever and ever” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Zung Lana, Col, Alhaji Mahamoud Tahiru (Rtd), Member of the Council of State representing the northern region thanked the Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for offering support to make this a reality.

The Chief said it is significant for Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of promoting cultural tourism in the country, adding in order for us to sell our culture; we have to sell to ourselves because charity begins at home.

He emphasized if we do not start local tourism then we cannot export our tourism exploits and advantages.

“It is very significant because now that they have come we are going to visit a lot tourist places, we may even go to slave site Saakpeli and other places” Zung Lana added.

The Council of State Member indicated this is also a window to open business opportunities since some of the Queen mothers are businesswomen, disclosing one of them already has a number cold store businesses operating in the region and also determined to expand the business.

The Queen mothers are expected to visit Yendi where they will pay homage to the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari II on Sunday (October 24, 2021) and celebrate the climax of the Damba festival with the king.
