The Custodian News Ghana has intercepted a document in a significant twist to the ongoing leadership concerns within the Agave Traditional Area, some two elders have issued a disclaimer, distancing themselves from legal actions purportedly filed in their names against some Chiefs.
Mr Hayford Klutse and Mr. Peter Keteni released a formal statement on January 6, 2026, denying any involvement in two recent lawsuits: Suit No. VRP.10/2025 and Suit No. AGTCW/3/2025.
This raises a case of identity theft, by who and for what reasons, which are yet unknown. The suits in question were filed at the Volta Regional House of Chiefs and the Agave Traditional Council, targeting some 14 chiefs in Agave.
The complainants of the petition and an interlocutory injunction in question are Alfred Agbesi Woyome, Alex Awukuvi Adiabo, Kosi Adzraku, George Tibo, Hayford Klutse, and Peter Keteni.
Nonetheless, Mr. Klutse and Mr. Keteni claim they never authorized these filings, nor are they signatories to the documents.
“We wish to state categorically that we are neither aware of, nor are we signatories to, any suit filed… against any Chief in the Agave Traditional Area,” the statement read.
The elders have issued a formal demand for the immediate withdrawal of their names from the legal processes, threatening further legal action against the “person or persons” responsible for the unauthorized use of their identities.
Agave ‘In Transition’
The Agave Traditional Area has been a hotspot for chieftaincy issues for over a decade. This disclaimer comes on the heels of: Allegations of “Illegal” Gazetting: Critics have accused the Regional House of Chiefs for illegally gazetting Togbega Xedihor Hlitabo IV who has recently been accused for using fake documents, forgery of official documents, and receiving unearned salaries while working with the Ghana Education Service.
The Paramountcy Dispute: Despite the crimes associated with Togbega Xedihor Hlitabo IV ( also known as Prince Koffi Adiabo and Edward Allan Agbeti) tensions remain high as the Chiefs in the Traditional area refuse to support or work with him in any way.
Political Interference Allegations: A majority of the Chiefs in Agave and some local groups have recently petitioned the Presidency, alleging that the Woyome’s are interfering in traditional governance.
To this end, the two elders directly addressed the chiefs targeted by the “purported” suits, asking them to disregard the litigation entirely.
“We are not involved in any chieftaincy dispute with any person or group, nor do we have any interest whatsoever in such matters,” Klutse and Keteni emphasized, seeking to neutralize any perceived aggression between their stools and their peers.
