The Parliament of Ghana has expressed profound sadness over the death of Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
”On behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, the Leadership of Parliament, and the entire Parliamentary Service, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, his colleagues in Parliament, his constituents in Ayawaso East, and all who were touched by his work and his humanity.”
The 60-year-old National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislator reportedly died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Sunday, January 4, 2026, after a short period of illness.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Parliament described the deceased as a dedicated public servant and a champion for his constituents, whose commitment to Ghana’s advancement was unwavering.
The statement added that the late lawmaker embodied the ethos of service and the spirit of philanthropy that are the hallmarks of public service.
”Hon. Naser Toure Mahama served our country with diligence, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility.
”His contributions to the House, his advocacy for development projects, and his tireless efforts to improve the lives of the people he represented will be remembered,” the statement emphasised.
The statement further requests privacy for the bereaved family during this difficult time.
”This is a difficult time for Parliament and for the people of Ayawaso East. We share in the pain of his family and hold them in our thoughts and prayers.”
Meanwhile, the MP is expected to be laid to rest today, Monday, in line with Islamic tradition.
The National Chief Imam, His Eminence, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, is expected to lead the Janazah prayer at exactly 10:00 am before interment.
