Patricia Appiagyei, Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, has issued a strong denial of a circulating document that purports to be a memorandum from her to the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh.
In a statement dated 4th September 2026 and released for immediate publication, Appiagyei said the document alleges she received and returned GH¢70,000 in connection with the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees. She stated firmly that she did not write, authorise or circulate the document and described it as fake.
“I did not write, authorise, or circulate this document. It is fake and should be disregarded by all,” the statement reads.
Appiagyei further declared that she received no payment of GH¢70,000 or any other sum from any person linked to the vetting of nominees or her duties as a member of the Appointments Committee. Because she received no such money, she said, there was no occasion to return any payment, contrary to what the fabricated document claims.
She insisted that she has at all times discharged her responsibilities on the Committee, including during the recent vetting exercise, with integrity.
The Deputy Minority Leader explained that she was attending the funeral of a close friend when her attention was first drawn to the matter. She initially believed that a “FAKE” stamp she had authorised to be placed on the document would be sufficient to discredit it. The story later gained wider prominence in the media, prompting her formal response.
Appiagyei described the fabrication of a document falsely attributed to her as a serious matter. She said she is taking legal advice on the appropriate next steps once the source of the document is established and has reserved all her rights, including the right to take action against anyone found responsible for creating or knowingly circulating it.
She attributed the episode to “faceless individuals” seeking to sow discord within the Minority Caucus, adding that such efforts would fail. Despite the challenges, she assured members of the New Patriotic Party and the Ghanaian public that the Caucus remains united and will continue to rally behind the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for victory in 2028.
