The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Mr. Godfred Yeboah Dame, has entreated the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to speak against any form of illegal pressure exerted on the judiciary.
He also cautioned against the influence of “unscrupulous persons who undermine the independence of the Judiciary by tarnishing its image unjustifiably.”
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new President and other executives of the GBA in Accra on Monday, Mr. Dame underscored the necessity of safeguarding judicial independence as a cornerstone of the rule of law.
Highlighting the responsibility of legal practitioners in maintaining the integrity of the judicial system, Mr. Dame stressed that GBA’s proactive stance in defending judicial independence would help sustain public confidence in the legal system.
“The Bar must prevent and condemn each and every act of illegal pressure on the Judiciary,” he reiterated.
He added that preserving the integrity of the judiciary is vital for upholding the “purity, dignity, and majesty of our courts.”
The Attorney-General encouraged the new GBA leadership to continue fostering a legal environment where justice is protected from external manipulation, underscoring that the integrity of Ghana’s courts is foundational to the country’s democracy and rule of law.
