Consumers across Ghana are set to pay more for sachet water, popularly known as “pure water,” as a new price adjustment takes effect from April 6, 2026.
The cost of a full bag is expected to rise to GH¢15—a development already sparking concern among households and small businesses that depend heavily on the product for daily use.
The increase comes amid mounting pressure on producers, who say the decision is necessary to remain operational in the face of rising costs. Industry players point to surging prices of key raw materials, particularly plastic, as a major factor behind the adjustment.
The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) has announced the new pricing structure.
In a statement released on Thursday, April 2, 2026, the association explained that the adjustment is driven by a global shortage of polymers and escalating production costs linked to the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has disrupted supply chains.
“The rising costs have made it challenging for manufacturers to maintain current prices,” the group said.
Under the revised pricing structure:
- Ex-factory price is set at GH¢8 per bag of 30 sachets (500ml each)
- Ex-truck price will be GH¢10 per bag of 30 sachets (500ml each)
- Maximum retail price is pegged at GH¢15 per bag of 30 sachets (500ml each)
NASPAWAP has urged both retailers and consumers to adhere to the new pricing guidelines to ensure fairness across the market.
“This adjustment is necessary to sustain production and ensure the continuous supply of safe drinking water,” the association added.
