The Chief Executive for the Sagnarigu Municipal in the northern region, Hajia Mariam Iddrisu together with the Municipal Information Service Department, Health Directorate and the Environmental Health Department today continued their intensified public sensitization and awareness creation about the deadly coronavirus disease.

The team visited a number of communities to educate the traditional leaders and people of these communities about the precautionary measures outlined by the World Health Organization and the government of Ghana and the need to adhere to these measures.

Hajia Mariam Iddrisu at the Kalpohin Chief palace explained to the Chief, Naa Abukari Mahama, his elders and the youth gathered, some of the risk factors that contribute to the spread of the pandemic. She said government has committed so much resources to protect everybody in the country, however, she urged the Chief to enforce the laid out safety measures by government in their jurisdiction.

Recorded confirmed cases in Tamale

The Ghana Health Service yesterday confirmed ten cases of the COVID-19 virus recorded in the northern regional capital, Tamale. This involves nationals of neighboring Burkina Faso and Guinea who were recently arrested by the Regional Security Council for unlawful entry.

Consequently, about 40 healthcare workers at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have been quarantined for coming into contact with these cases.

The MCE appealed to the Chief to direct a local drummer to announce to the community members to adhere to the social distancing and personal hygiene protocols. She said these are not normal times in the country, advising the people to cooperate with government and health workers.

Hajia Mariam entreated the people to stay home to prevent themselves from contracting the disease as government and healthcare experts work tirelessly to control spread of the disease in the country. She charged the chiefs to support government by enforcing the ban on social gathering.

She further appealed to the chiefs to ensure residents of their communities who return from the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions observe the 14-day mandatory quarantine to avoid community infections of the virus.
