About two hundred (200) youth in the Savelugu municipality have received start-up tools through the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and MasterCard Foundation Business in a Box (BIZBOX) Project. The beneficiaries were also given certificates upon going through skills training in various trades including dressmaking, hairdressing, welding and fabrications, carpentry and weaving.

The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Enterprises Agency, Mrs. Kosi Yankey-Ayeh in an address presented on her behalf by the Northern Regional Manager, Mathew Azoya, urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the resources available to them and encouraged them never to hesitate to reach out to the Business Advisory Centres (BACs) whenever they face challenges.

“Your journeys are just beginning, and I have no doubt that you will use the skills and resources you’ve gained to make a meaningful impact in your communities. It won’t always be easy but know that your business can grow to great heights with sustained effort” she admonished.

According to the Chief Executive, the Ghana Enterprises Agency since 2017 has facilitated the creation of over 109,471 jobs, with an impressive 67 percent benefiting women.

“Today’s ceremony is a testament to this commitment as we celebrate the remarkable achievements made possible through the partnership between the GEA and the Mastercard Foundation.

“I would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and His Excellency Dr. Alhaji Mahmoud Bawumia for their unwavering support of entrepreneurship in Ghana. Their vision for a prosperous future inspires us all and serves as a guiding light for our efforts. A special thank you goes to the Mastercard Foundation for their invaluable partnership and commitment to empowering the youth of Ghana” she stated.

The Special Guest for the graduation ceremony, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, who is the 2024 Savelugu parliamentary candidate of the NPP in her remarks said the skills provided by the government are invaluable, and argued that learning is a lifelong journey and as young entrepreneurs they must stay curious, keep seeking knowledge, and never stop improving as the world is constantly evolving, and it is those who adapt and grow that will thrive.

“They are not just tools for your future career; they are life skills that will serve you well in all your endeavors. You have learned to think critically, solve problems creatively, and communicate effectively. These skills are the foundation upon which you will build your future” Hajia Fatahiya emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Savelugu Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, in her remarks noted the program has come at an opportune time as it aligns perfectly with the assembly’s agenda to promote entrepreneurship, self-employment and economic development in the communities.

She therefore lauded the Ghana Enterprises Agency and the MasterCard Foundation for their partnership and investment in building the capacities of the young people.
