The Member of Parliament for the Savelugu constituency in the Northern Region, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has launched a Foundation dubbed: Yooyili Pag’dede Foundation, with the aim at empowering women, the youth and persons with disabilities through economic empowerment programmes and education.
The non-governmental organisation is expected to foster a vibrant and inclusive society for all as stipulated in the UN Sustainable Development Goals 8, 10, and 11, which focus on decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, and sustainable cities and communities by 2030.
In her address during the launch on Saturday (February 14, 2026), the lawmaker stated that the people of Savelugu are very hardworking and determined, but their only challenge is the lack of opportunities for them to harness their full potential.
Therefore, she indicated that the foundation will prioritise women’s entrepreneurship in farming, agribusiness, trade, and other economic activities by providing essential tools needed to build sustainable livelihoods.
The foundation will implement about five key projects to address issues of women in agriculture and fashion as well as story weavers project for school children, a preschool project to transform preschool education in the municipality, and a clean water project to improve access to safe drinking water.
Madam Fatahiya noted that the intervention was born out of a simple conviction that no one should be left behind in the development of the area, particularly women, who are the backbone of their respective families.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our journey toward a more inclusive society as a constituency. We are here to officially launch the Yooyili Pag’dede Foundation, an initiative born out of a simple conviction: that no one should be left behind in the development of our municipality, especially my women folk,s who are the backbone of their respective families.
“This is a historic moment for our constituency, and it is a profound honour for me to stand before you today not just as your representative in the 9th Parliament of Ghana, but as a proud daughter of this soil who deeply understands our shared challenges and untapped potential,” she emphasised.
According to the Savelugu MP, leadership is about service, and service is best rendered when it reaches the most vulnerable in society. She further affirmed her commitment as the Deputy Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select on Gender to advocate for the empowerment of the most vulnerable groups in society
Education
The MP said the Savelugu Educational Fund, which she launched last year with an amount of GHS169,000 to support over 100 brilliant but needy students, will continue this year and more tertiary students are expected to benefit.
“Within the past year, since I assumed office following the resounding mandate from the good people of Savelugu in the 2024 general elections, I launched the Savelugu Educational Fund with a seed capital of GHS 169,000 in fulfillment of my campaign promise to support brilliant but needy students. Over 100 students benefited in 2025, and more students will benefit this year, Insha Allah,” she announced.
Meanwhile, former Finance Minister and MP for Karaga, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, who graced the launch, commended the Savelugu lawmaker for coming up with such an intervention and called all relevant stakeholders in the area to offer their support to her to realise the vision of the initiative.
The former Minister further encouraged the people to always elect leaders who are committed to transforming the livelihood of their people, emphasising that until that is done, communities will continue to struggle for development.
