Senior High Schools have participated in national STEM competition organized by the Youth Employment Authority (YEA) with Accra High School emerging as a top contender in the competition, showcasing their innovative Integrated Waste Management System.
The system, designed by students, addresses the critical issues of waste disposal and sustainability, marking a significant achievement for Ghana’s future innovators.
A Comprehensive Solution
The project developed by Accra High School combines biogas production with water filtration, turning waste into valuable resources:
Anaerobic digestion: Food waste and animal dung are broken down to produce methane and carbon dioxide.
Biogas utilization: Methane is harnessed as a fuel source for cooking.
Water filtration: Contaminated water is filtered for farming and treated further to make it safe for drinking.
Robotics and Engineering Design
Accra High students also demonstrated their robotics prototypes, showcasing their understanding of the Engineering Design process and further reinforcing their mastery of STEM principles.
YEA CEO Calls for Innovation
Mr. Kofi Baah Agyepong, CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), commended the students for their ingenuity and encouraged them to apply their creativity to solve real-world problems.
“You have a responsibility not just to yourselves but to the generations that follow,” he stated.
