A pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) vigilante group based in Tamale in the Northern Region, Aluta Boys, have issued a warning that they will resist any attempt by the party stalwarts to impose their preferred candidate on the Tamale Central constituency in the lead-up to the upcoming by-election.
The group is demanding a free, fair, and transparent parliamentary primaries for the grassroots to elect a suitable candidate of their choice to run for the parliamentary seat on September 30, 2025, as announced by the Election Commission.
Chairman of the group, Alhassan Abdul Jalal, in a video recording sighted by THE CUSTODIAN Online said they will not allow the personal interest of anyone to override the interest of the constituency.
This comes on the back of allegations that some leading figures of the NDC in the Northern Region were plotting to field a candidate without having to hold any internal primaries ahead of the by-election on September 30.
THE CUSTODIAN has learnt from sources within the NDC that some influential persons had proposed the Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission, Professor Alidu Mahama Seidu, as the ideal candidate to replace the late Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, who tragically died recently.
“We heard rumors from someone [I won’t mention the name] that Dr. has gone and now a Professor is coming. We won’t sit in this constituency and allow someone from another constituency to dictate to us who should be our leader.
“Who dictates to that person in his constituency? So, we will no longer tolerate such nonsense in this constituency. There should be a contest. The national party says they have not chosen any candidate for us,” he stated.
However, Abdul Jalal also warned that they will attack any constituency executive of the party who will take sides and move around to campaign for any particular aspirant.
“…We are serious about this and whoever that constituency executive is, we will beat the person. They should allow everybody to contest; it should be free and fair.
“All constituency executives must play neutral. We all saw what happened the last time and we won’t allow it to happen this time. I already told Golden, the constituency communications officer, that we will deal with them if they take sides,” he emphasised.
