The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, has announced the much-anticipated work to upgrade the Tamale Central hospital to a regional hospital will commence in the next two months.
The hospital currently provides primary healthcare services to the people of Tamale and the adjoining districts in the northern region.
The Minister has said the work when completed will propel the facility towards a full-fledged Regional Hospital which will provide secondary healthcare services.
“I am happy to announce that the much-anticipated work at the Tamale Central Hospital will commence in the next 2 months at the latest, to propel the facility towards a full-fledged Regional Hospital.”
Alhaji Shani made the announcement during the celebration of the 2023 Eid-ul Adha festival last Wednesday, June 28, at the Central Mosque in Tamale, the northern regional capital.
Addressing the Muslim congregation, the Minister reiterated other ongoing government developmental projects in the region.
He mentioned there are quite a significant number of major road construction works, infrastructure for health, education, electricity and agriculture.
The Minister added all these when completed will bring about significant improvement in the lives of the people in the northern region.
“Government will also continue to roll out policies and programmes that will ensure the speedy progress and development of this region and the country at large.
“As I intimidated in my address during the Eid Fitr, there is quite a significant number of projects going on – roads, education and health, electricity and Agriculture which when completed will bring about significant improvement in the lives of the People” he stated.
The Regional Minister therefore called for the support and cooperation of relevant stakeholders in the region in the quest for all of these projects to be completed timely to enhance socioeconomic activities.

Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, also used the medium to promote intra and inter-religious and ethnic tolerance among the people.
He indicated the Northern Region is a multi-ethnic and multi-faith-based region which values the beliefs of others and urged the people to continue to tolerate divergent views and promote dialogue, peace and harmony at all times.
He maintained it is in this spirit of tolerance for one another that the people can collectively achieve their shared goals and development for the region and the Country at large reiterating the need for people to freely practice their faith without fear, prejudice and persecution.
Meanwhile, the Minister has also commended the Northern Regional Operations Committee of Ghana Hajj Board together with its relevant stakeholders for thus far organizing a very successful and incident free exercise.
“It is my hope that the prayers of the pilgrims will bring more blessings and development for the region and the country as a whole. We pray that Allah the Almighty brings them back safely.”
According to him, about 2,042 Pilgrims were airlifted to the holy land of Saudi Arabia to perform this year’s Hajj in accordance with the teachings of the Islamic religion.
