The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate in the Tamale Central constituency, Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, has formally submitted his nomination forms to the Electoral Commission, EC, to contest upcoming  by-election slated for September 30, 2025.

The Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission was led by some NDC Regional and Constituency executives together with some gallant party faithful, to return the forms today, Wednesday, September 10.

This follows his landslide victory last Saturday, September 6, during the party’s parliamentary primary at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

The keenly contested polls witnessed the former Senior Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana emerge as the winner with 840 votes, and his closest contender, a former Mayor of Tamale Metropolis, Abdul Hannan Gundadow, obtained 536 votes.

After the filing process, Prof. Seidu commended the officials of the elections management body for diligently conducting their mandate in a manner to consolidate the country’s democratic process.

‎”You’re a good partner in our democratic dispensation, and we will forever work with you to create the enabling environment for you to succeed and for our partnership to grow stronger,” he stated.

The NDC Member of Parliament hopeful seized the opportunity to caution all party supporters and sympathisers of the party against division.

He stressed the importance of unity, mutual respect, and clean campaigning, noting that the strength of the party lies in discipline and togetherness.

The Water Resources Commission boss reassured the constituents of his unwavering commitment to continue the good works of the late Hon. Murtala, while also promising to introduce new initiatives that would bring progress and development to the people of Tamale Central.

‎He further expressed gratitude to the rank and file of the party for their overwhelming support and urged everyone to continue praying for victory in the upcoming by-election.

Meanwhile, the Tamale Metro EC Director, Mr. Anaba Samson, disclosed to the media that at least four other candidates — representing the All People’s Congress (APC), Liberal Party of Ghana, People’s National Convention (PNC), and an Independent candidate — have picked forms to contest the seat but have yet to submit to register their interest to contest.

‎The EC is expected to close the submission of nominations today, Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
