The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to elect its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Tamale Central constituency in the Northern Region.
The Custodian Online has gathered that a total number of one thousand five hundred and fifty-two (1,552) NDC delegates are expected to cast their ballots in Tamale Central.
The number includes constituency executives, branch executives, former government appointees, and regional executives, among others.
Twelve (12) individuals are in the race, comprising three female candidates and nine male candidates. Some of the leading contenders in the contest include the Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission, Prof. Alidu Seidu, the former Mayor of Tamale, Hon Hanan Gundadow Abdul Rahaman; and Naama Salifu, a Ghanaian diplomat based in Niger.
The Electoral Commission weeks ago announced September 30 to conduct a by-election in the Tamale Central following the untimely death of the incumbent NDC Member of Parliament, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala.
The lawmaker, together with Ghana’s Defense Minister, Dr Omane Boamah and six others, were involved in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
