Inmates at the Tamale Central Prisons in the northern region have expressed their gratitude and felicitations to Dr Ibrahim Anyars Imoro, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2020 Member of Parliament hopeful in the Tamale Central constituency for his continuous support, show of love and care towards them.
The Chief Executive Officer for the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) donated 300 packs of cooked food with assorted mineral drinks to the prisoners during the celebration of the Islamic festival of Eid-ul Adha last Friday.
According to the Islamic teachings, Muslims are obliged to offer sacrifices to Allah and also share amongst the less privileged and poor in the society.
Upon receipt of the items, leadership of both Muslim and Christian inmates thanked Dr Ibrahim Anyars and prayed for him to succeed in his political ambition and all other endeavours.
“Words cannot explain how we feel about what Dr Anyars has been doing for us here. We will always remember him in our prayers, we always draw inspiration from such leaders in the society” they said.
Mr. Iddrisu Ablayi Tahiru, Personal Assistant to Dr Anyars in an interview with THE CUSTODIAN explained that the gesture is an annual ritual the NPP Parliamentary Candidate always performs by extending support to the inmates.
He said Islam enjoins Muslims to share food and other items with the needy and less privileged in the society during the celebration of Islamic festivities.
Mr Tahiru noted that the donation is aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the prisoners whose freedom is curtailed by law.
“Dr Anyars has been doing this for the past four years, every year he personally comes to provide food and other items to the inmates at the Tamale Central Prisons but this time around he is out of town and has tasked us to present it to the inmates on his behalf” Mr. Tahiru said.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service in the northern region, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons, David Kwame Afatsawu commended Dr Anyars on behalf of the Regional Command of Prisons and the Director General for the gesture.
He said the doors of the central prison are always opened for more of such support.
Mr. Afatsawu stated that the prison is the home for everyone only that, “you have not be caught with law yet”.
As a result, he urged the public and other benevolent individuals, institutions and faith-based organizations to always remember the inmates at all times and not only during festive seasons.
“Our doors are always opened to the public to visit here and show love to the inmates. The more they see you, they see that they are loved but when you leave them behind, they become more hardened and will like to vent their anger on society when they get out of jail.”
Meanwhile, the Eid-ul Adha celebration is a very important festival in the Islamic calendar and Muslims across the world remembers Prophet Ibrahim for his obedience to Allah’s demand to sacrifice his son Ismail.
Believers of the Islamic Religion are expected during this season to serve with their time, effort and wealth.
Accordingly, well to do people are obliged to slaughter an animal – a sheep, goat, cow or camel to symbolise Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son for the sake of Allah.
