The Tamale Metro Fire Station tender with registration number, DPT No. FS 45 on Wednesday, 25th February, 2026, caught fire while responding to an emergency at Sakpaligu, a suburb of Tamale along the Savelugu Highway.
The crew led by Station Officer Grade One (STNO I), Mohammed Gadafi, were reportedly en route to attend to a fire outbreak when the unfortunate incident occurred, bringing their response operation to a halt.
The Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ADOI Baba Hudu, who confirmed the incident to the media, said that the team of firefighters were dispatched at 09:28 hours to the fire scene, and approximately 09:45 hours, the appliance developed a fire, compelling the driver to veer off the road into a ditch.

The crew swiftly extinguished the flames and brought the situation under control.
The Custodianghonline has learned that the officers are all safe and unhurt.
“Fortunately, no casualties were recorded. However, the appliance sustained partial damage to the underside of the rear offside axle,” the PRO added.
Meanwhile, a backup vehicle from the Sagnarigu Fire Station was immediately deployed to continue the response to the original incident.

The damaged fire tender has since been towed to the Regional headquarters for further assessment and the necessary action.
