The Tamale North Member of Parliament, Alhaji Alhassan Suhiyini, has presented medical equipment to the Gbalahi and Ward K Community Health Centers in his constituency.
The items includes, clinical thermometers, tabletop fridges, delivery sets, drip stands, baby weighing scales, beds and forceps at the cost of twenty seven thousand, seven hundred and twelve Ghana cedis (GH¢27, 712.00).
The lawmaker at a short handing over ceremony said the gesture was in response to a request made by the Sagnarigu Municipal Health Directorate to equip the facilities to serve its purpose.
Similarly, Mr. Suhiyini announced over four hundred (400) furniture was also handed to the Sagnarigu Municipal Education Directorate for onward distribution to some selected schools in the Tamale North constituency to enhance teaching and learning.
He explained, “So today, we are gathered here at Gbalahi to respond to another request from the health directorate under the Sagnarigu municipal. We, by the grace of God, contacted a nongovernmental organization, Qatar Charity and they assisted us to construct two clinics in our constituency last year – one of those clinics is situated here at Gbalahi”.
Unfortunately, the Tamale North MP indicated after the project was constructed, it was brought to his notice that the source of electricity was far and the contractor couldn’t connect the facility to the national grid, adding that, “I had to intervene to provide electricity at the clinic; I have since also provided a water tank and connected it to the facility so that they can have some water to run the facility.”
He, however, disclosed that the equipment were purchase with funding from the National Health Insurance Fund as identified by the health professionals as the needed logistics for efficient and effective delivery of healthcare in the two communities.
Hon Suhiyini further assured the people of his unwavering determination to ensure health infrastructure and service improves in the area.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Health Director for Sagnarigu, George Abraham, for his part commended the Tamale North legislator for his timely intervention, stating it would’ve taken a longer time to furnish the facilities with these logistics.
He promised that the equipment are going to be put into good use to serve its purpose.
Notwithstanding that, the Health Director urged the two beneficiary communities to own the facilities and help in its maintenance to get the necessary benefits for its establishment.
