The Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has confirmed a total of six individuals sustaining various degrees of injuries on Tuesday (September 16, 2025) during the protest of students of the Tamale Technical University.
The victims include three police officers and three of the protesting students, who are all presently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
The police have also revealed there was no damage to the school properties as well as Police facilities on the campus, and calm has been restored.
The Northern Regional Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Luckman Neindow Alhassan, who disclosed in a statement dated Tuesday (September 16, 2025), said the disgruntled students were engaged in an unlawful demonstration.
“The intelligence received indicated that at 09:00 am, students numbering about five hundred (500) massed up in front of the school’s administration block.
“Upon receipt of the information, a team led by Supt. Mr. Richard Lantei Odartey was deployed to restore law and order. It was observed that the demonstrating students had set ablaze vehicle tyres at the main entrance of the school (Tamasco direction) and in front of the Police Post (Kpalsi direction) on the main road as well as in front of the administration block,” he stated.
Mr. Neindow added that the students became aggressive upon seeing the police and started pelting stones, which resulted in three students sustaining injuries, as well as three police officers who are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, a temporary deployment is stationed on the grounds to avert any recurrence.
